How AI can advance Architecture

First, we must understand the hardship and frustration of the design process of an Architect. The design process for even a single structure may take 06 to 18 months.  AI can help futuristic design. Now a days AI helps static renders, but we want AI precisely developed to understand. Now Artificial Intelligence is something that people have been working on for a long time.

AI can make jump start for the professionals, if we want. We can go directly from text to 3D model.

AI can make provision for modify 3D model, we can automatically elaborate AI to calculate the carbon emissions, calculate day light factors.

Architects were used to draw the way of hand drafting earlier. Now a days AutoCAD is much faster than hand drafting. It is more efficient and can process complex data.

In the era of AI, it is becoming intelligent, AI software like DALL-E2, ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney are the forms of Generative AI, more accurate and personalized than the automation software could create in the past. For a long time, we only had to worry about computers taking over low skilled and non-creative jobs. Jobs that required more complex thinking and creativity required humans, because we have diverse experiences in the world. With AI computers can do the same at scale and speeds. AI generated are usually visually and aesthetically pleasing, interesting, and appear to involve creativity. Generally, the more specific the better the outcome. It can be vague or specific as per text prompt. Vagueness can be helpfull at the conceptual stages.

Technology is changing very quickly day by day and it is the age of AI, none can deny it. For architects rendering with AI plugins is much faster than regular render options.

Softwares for AI in architecture are

  1. Rhino and grasshopper
  2. Revit and Dynamo
  3. Python Scripting
  4. Learn AI prompt

Many famous architects work with generative AI for Architectural design and visualization. Zaha Hadid Architects experimenting with generative AI. Specially for compositional ideas through AI experiments were done. For the benefit of more productivity, prosperity and a form of creativity generated ideas are used. We can do much more in a shorter time and that leads to better decisions because creation is not only just creation for the sake of creative architects trying to solve problems.

Today we are diving into the cutting-edge world o architecture. Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the process of design, analyze and even experience our built environment.

Some AI tools that can help architects and visualizer to create initial idea.

Midjourney: It is like sidekick. Even it can render as per different architects render style

Varys.ai: It van help creating 3D models and Its intelligent form creator can create pleasing renderings.

  1. Xcool.ai: For instant create of Landscape Layout, It has personalized render styles. Provision for export of re-editable file, Housing type library, convenient design method.
  2. Architecturers.com/en/: From idea to design in realtime, delivering top architectural solutions.
  3. Testfit.io: It has mutiple building option. It reduce risk and Increase potential. Massing mode and collaborate tools, parking space calculations are the speciality.
  4. Roomgpt: It can redesign a room in seconds.
  5. Finch3D.com: Finch easily with existing design and drafting tools. making it simple to incorporate with workflow. It has seamless workflow.

Someday we will say goodbye to traditional hassels, we can elevate our design from conventional to architectural visulalization with stunning realism.

Architects of the metaverse

Digital animated world will most probably very close to reality.

AI is advancing the field of architecture. enhancing cost efficiency and sustaiability. As AI integrates into the fabric of built cities and communities, it enables smarter and safer structures to find the way for a sustainable future. Cost efficiency is significantly improved by AI’s optimized resource allocation, reduced material waste, and streamlined project timelines.

Emerging AI technologies

Generative design: This technology can be used to create new and innovative designs that would be difficult or impossible for humans to come up with on their own. For example, generative design could be used to create a perfectly optimized building for energy efficiency or to design a city that is resilient to climate change.

Machine learning: This technology can be used to train AI models to recognize patterns and make predictions. In architecture, machine learning could predict how people will use a space or identify potential problems with a design.

Natural language processing: This technology can be used to understand and respond to human language. In architecture, natural language processing could be used to create AI-powered design assistants that can help architects create designs that meet the needs of their clients.

Virtual reality and augmented reality: These technologies can create immersive experiences that allow architects to explore their designs more realistically. VR architecture and AR could also be used to collaborate with clients and stakeholders on designs.

Robotics: This technology could automate construction tasks, making construction faster, cheaper, and more efficient. Robots could also create more complex and intricate designs than would be possible with human labor.

These are just a few of the upcoming AI innovations that are set to revolutionize architecture. As AI continues to develop, we can expect to see even more innovative and transformative applications of this technology in the architecture industry.

Can AI replace Architects?

The essence of architecture depends on human qualities of creativity and intuition. The ability to conceive original ideas, envision spaces that evoke emotions and weave cultural narratives into designs remains uniquely human. AI can offer suggestions and variations, but it is the architect’s intuition that guides the selection and refinement of those options.

Human architects possess a deep understanding of how people interact with spaces, drawing from personal experiences and cultural contexts to create designs that resonate on a deeper level. This inherent creativity and intuitive understanding of the built environment are what elevate architecture from mere construction to an art form.

The collaboration between human creativity and AI’s computational power will lead to innovative and sustainable architectural solutions that address the challenges of the 21st century. AI has the potential for revolutionized, and cross the boundary of incredible technology. AI will not replace architects any time soon but will (and arguably already does) assist them.

Architecture is perhaps the most complex discipline operating in more dimensions than any other coordinated human activity.

Similarly complex activities are economics and politics. These are complex as they have to do with the interactions of large numbers of people and organizations with complex, overlapping, and competing interests. Large scale architecture combines the complexities of economics and politics with the added complexity of having a physical product at the end of the process.

The creators will accept computers and software that assists them but not ones that will replace them and the consumers are largely interested in the creative products of other humans. Purely automated creative works are, at least so far, novelty acts and products and the artist are still taken to be the human that created the automated process.

Furthermore, architecture is a massively collaborative process requiring the involvement of a wide range of professions and stakeholders. The role of the architect is to coordinate all these so as to result in a completed building.

Finally we can say that AI always has and always will, rely on human.
